Taj Falaknuma Palace Launches The Grill to Mark its Fifth Anniversary Celebration

Yesterday was a special evening of Nizami hospitality in Hyderabad City on the occasion of Taj Falaknuma Palace’s fifth anniversary celebration which coincided with the inauguration of Grills, a new restaurant at the Coronation Hall of the palace.

It was another evening of majestic luxury and magnificent royalty after the regal High Tea at Taj Falaknuma Palace two weeks back. Illuminated to celebrate its fifth anniversary, the entire palace from the main entrance to the interiors was blushing like a bride under a veil of glitters.

I was overwhelmed by the legendary hospitality of the world’s best palace hotel (awarded by Trip Advisor) from a ride on the horse-drawn carriage to a live Sufi performance to dining at Grills. The air was heavy with soulful notes during the live Sufi and Qawwali performance in the open balcony of the Gol Bungalow that seems to hang like a resplendent lamp over the sprawling cityscape. We were served a welcome drink there.

We had bites of the grand cake which was sliced to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Taj Falaknuma Palace hotel. Then we were led to the Coronation Hall for the inauguration of The Grill. After the ribbon was cut ceremoniously, we were entertained with a tour of the Coronation Hall, a spectacular edifice adorned with splendid lamps, priceless artifacts and intricate wooden friezes. I got to know during the tour that the Coronation Hall stands for secularism as it embraced Mughal, Hindu and Buddhist architectural styles.

There is a pool for in-house guests on one side of the Coronation Hall, and other two sides of the hall are open to sublime viewing of the city skyline. The Grill welcomed us amidst such inexplicable opulence and treated us to an array of gastronomical delights. The Grill offers a chef-special menu showcasing some of the best grilled dishes: Arabic Cold Mezze Platter, Indian Ocean Red Snapper, Bharwan Malai Aloo, Cottage Cheese with traditional Indian spices, Chicken Drumsticks and Polenta Steak, Halloumi Skewers with Sundried tomato pesto, and Chargrilled courgette along with a special dessert of the day.

It was a food tasting session, too, at The Grill. It started with Grilled Asparagus Cappuccino to warm up us in slightly breezy and mildly cold atmosphere of the hilltop palace. Then we were served Mezze platter with Hummus, Babaghanoush, Shankleesh, and Fattoush Salad. The Mezze platter was accompanied by pita bread. The taste clicked with me.

The invitees were requested to take their picks from the main course as per their choice. I chose to have saffron chicken leaving aside Lamb Chop & Chicken, Korameen & Achari Prawns, and Grilled Vegetables on the menu at The Grill. I have had garlic chicken, ginger chicken and lemon chicken several times in Hyderabad, not saffron chicken. My first taste of saffron chicken with sumac mash and grilled asparagus broccoli at the Grill, Taj Falaknuma Palace, was amazing. Chef’s exceptional desserts drew an end to the food tasting ceremony.
